Good to Know

Green unripened grapes were collected from the Region of Emilia-Romagna - one of the richest regions of Italy with regard to its wine-making tradition. We were particularly interested in the young tissues as they are rich in highly viable cells, and could be used to obtain the stem cell culture. During the stem cell bio fermentation process, we have been generating the overexpression of interesting anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory molecules such as polyphenols and stilbenes - in particular trans-resveratrol and viniferin - which are found in considerably high concentrations. It is proven that these compounds prevent oxidative stress, particularly UV-induced damages at DNA level, thus protecting cells against premature ageing.
